Wardrobe Staples

While I love getting creative with my outfits, there are some things that you’ve seen on repeat over the years. I’ve never really shared a roundup of my wardrobe staples, so I thought why not now? I’m sure I’m forgetting something, but this is a great place to start if you want to build a solid foundation.

Jeans: In case you missed it, I put together an update to the Curvy Jeans Guide with four current pairs I love. Jeans are one of the most versatile items of clothing, so finding a pair you love and feel good in is so important.

T-Shirts: White, black and gray t-shirts are must-haves. They can be worn on their own, or layered, dressed up and dressed down. My favorites are from Everlane and J.Crew. I like that they’re just polished enough without costing a lot.

Turtlenecks: I love a black turtleneck for layering in the fall and winter. Patterns can be fun too. If you’re wearing one under a sweater or dress, you don’t want anything too heavy. For that reason, J.Crew’s tissue turtlenecks are my longtime go-to (seen here).

Bodysuits: These are also a layering essential. I like that you don’t have to worry about tucking in a shirt in a way that isn’t bunchy or visible, which helps keep your waist defined. Most bodysuits have thong bottoms, but I prefer brief bottoms from a comfort perspective. Lately, I’ve been wearing these two from from QVC (seen here) and Summersalt.

Black flats: If you’ve been reading here for a while, you know I’m a flats girl. I’ve had a lot of pairs of black flats over the years, but my current favorite is this pair from Rothy’s (seen here). I love the bow, and they’re super comfortable. I also have a pair of Margaux flats (seen here), which are more of an investment, but so classic and timeless.

Denim jacket: I probably wear my denim jacket more than anything in the spring and summer. Old Navy is without a doubt the place to go for this one. Their jackets are affordable, but they last forever and come in a few different washes.

White sneakers: You need a great pair of white sneakers, especially in the warmer months. I love Keds, and I had an eyelet slip-on pair from their collaboration with Draper James that I wore to death. Last summer, I got this lace-up pair too. They’re simple, but they go with everything.

Black crossbody bag: I have a lot of bags, but the one I turn to again and again is a small black crossbody. This one from Amazon the Drop fits everything I need these days, and it looks more expensive than it is.

There you have it: my wardrobe staples! Although I totally support the idea that staples are worth investing in, these are all fairly affordable. It just goes to show that you can get a lot of wear out of something without breaking the bank.
