I’m not quite sure how I feel about ankle-length pants. They’re not capris and they’re not full-length. In truth, they can sometimes look like you’re just preparing for a flood. For short girls, ankle pants can be a frustrating quandary. Our ankles are not as far from our knees as they are on “regular people,” and thus these pants look more regular length on our shorter legs. There are a few ways we can look at this:
- Damn your short legs!
- If you want these to actually look like ankle pants, you will have to get them shortened, or find them in the petite department.
- Embrace the length! They may fit like full-length pants, but that means you don’t have to have them altered!
I tend to go with option three and just consider ankle pants as an extension of my options for regular pants. Just because an item of clothing is made to look a certain way doesn’t mean we can’t have a little creative license. If you absolutely must have a pair of ankle-length pants, find a pair with a cuff, and just cuff them a little more. Otherwise, check out some of my favorite affordable pairs for Spring and embrace the length:

You know, I’m just about 5’2 and I LOVE ankle pants. I wear them with heels and flats. I find the look best when you wear a tucked in shirt with a higher up blazer (aka about where the waist of the pant is). That way, it doesn’t make you look shorter, it just creates a very sleek and sophisticated style. Thanks for sharing

Great tips, Lauren! I love that you re-imagined in totally different ways than I did. Thank YOU for sharing!
I kind of love ankle pants. As a tall girl as long as they are skinny ankle jeans it looks intentional. Best thing to happen to us. I LOVE those ann taylor ones!
Love the tall girl perspective on this! Thanks, Franziska! And yes, the AT pair may be my favorite too
