Summer Reading

This post is a little bit different than my usual trend round-ups or shopping guides. But, style isn’t my only interest, and I like to read more than just fashion magazines. For me, reading is an escape, and a well-written book can take you on some amazing adventures! My happy place is on the beach with a good book, so I wanted to share some of my favorites with you. I’m always looking for recommendations, so feel free to leave your list in the comments.

Also, I’m a big fan of the website/app Goodreads. It allows you to keep track of what you’ve read and what you want to read. You can search for books, see what your friends are reading, and read reviews. If someone gives me a book reco on the go, I just open the app and add it to my ‘to read’ list. So easy! This isn’t a promoted post, I just wanted to share 🙂 Be sure to add me as a friend if you join!

books

Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah: I’ve read quite a few of Hannah’s books, and this one is still my favorite. It’s the story of an unlikely friendship, and how that friendship grows and changes over the years. Although they may take very different paths towards happiness, main characters Tully and Kate will always have each other.

Keeping the House by Ellen Baker: This is one of my all-time favorite books. It’s on the longer side, but so worth it. The primary plot is set in the 1950’s, but as the main character explores her family’s history, you’re taken back in time. Both the characters and the issues at hand are totally relatable.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak: Although there are a lot of Holocaust books out there, this one has a truly unique perspective. The main character is a nine-year-old girl named Liesel…but, the narrator is Death. Although the subject matter is difficult, there is a light humor underneath it all. This book is a little slow at times, but engaging nonetheless. It was also recently released as a movie. (If you’re a fan of historical fiction, I recommend checking out Susanna Kearsley and Pam Jenoff too.)

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green: This may seem like an obvious choice, considering how much hype the movie has been getting lately, but while I haven’t seen the movie yet, I can say that the book is definitely worth a read. Although there is a lot of cause for sadness in the lives of the main characters, that’s not all there is to the story. It’s also about love, hope and making the most of every single day we have on Earth. Bring tissues. (If you’re looking for a lighter young adult book, I really enjoyed reading The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series.)

Following Atticus by Tom Ryan: A true story about a man and his dog who set out on an incredible journey. Their mission is to scale all 48 of New Hampshire’s 4,000 foot mountains…in the dead of winter. It’s an incredible tale of courage, perseverance, and the bond between man and man’s best friend. Bonus: the dog is a real cutie!

Happy Reading!

  2. TFiOS is a really good book, I do hope to reread at some point in the future as I think it could be a more enjoyable reading experience with all the knowledge I had heard prior to reading. I’m on the fence as to whether I want to see the film or not.

The Book Thief is a novel I hear so much about but have yet to read… Great picks!
