A couple of months ago, I had the opportunity to try Smirnoff’s new holiday flavor: Peppermint Twist. One of the “party favors” from the event was an ugly Christmas sweater, so when we decided to throw a last minute holiday party, I knew that Peppermint Twist and ugly sweaters had to be involved.
Since peppermint hot chocolate is one my favorite winter indulgences, I decided to set up a hot chocolate bar for my friends.
I made a batch of hot chocolate ahead of time, and put it in an insulated pitcher so I wouldn’t have to take time away from my guests to heat it up. The Peppermint Twist bottle is so pretty that I put it out on the table to display. This also allowed people to add as much or as little vodka as they wanted (I recommend about 1 oz per mug).
For toppings, I provided silver sugar sprinkles, mini marshmallows and peppermint crunch. On the side, I served peppermint white chocolate covered pretzel thins from Trader Joe’s that were AH-MAZING!
Spiked hot chocolate is the perfect holiday cocktail, especially with a peppermint twist, and setup is super easy. Just find a cocoa mix you like (milk, white or dark chocolate) and whip up a big batch. You can pre-mix with the vodka, or let your guests decide on their own proportions. For toppings, choose your favorites to let people personalize their drink. The one thing I would have added to our selection was whipped cream. Marshmallows are a must!
