It snowed on Saturday, and the hubby and I spent the entire day inside. Aside from missing out on plans with Kelly and her husband, I was perfectly happy to watch the snow fall from the window while staying warm and dry. Yesterday, we ventured out to do some errands and I got to wear my new Sorel boots. They’re technically rain boots, but with a pair of thick socks, they can totally handle the snow. Even though I didn’t technically need new boots, I couldn’t resist the metallic finish and the polka dot lining when I found these Sorels at TJ Maxx last month.
Now, let’s discuss winter layering. Although it’s tempting to pile on all of the warm things you can find before you go out in the biting cold, one of the most important things about layering in the winter is to go for lots of light layers, instead of a couple of heavy ones. Try to wear breathable fabrics like cotton, and don’t shy away from an open weave. Although I have a great puffy coat, I also love this lighter weight parka. With a sweater and button down, plus its partial fur lining, it keeps me nice and toasty on chilly days. By keeping things light, you’ll minimize that awkward sweat that happens when you transition from outside cold to inside heat, and your body won’t go through such drastic temperatures changes.

bummer you missed out on your plans with kelly – hope you can reschedule!
Thanks, Lydia! Love me some polka dots! We’re re-scheduling for January, so no worries
Hope you’re staying warm!
I love those Sorel boots! I wear my Hunters all the time in the winter time and I just add a big pair of fluffy wigwam socks to keep my toes from freezing.

Thanks, Heidi! They got me with the polka dots
Tell me about these wigwam socks!
They’re awesome. I think they make non-wool versions if someone is allergic to wool (like my mom!) and come in multiple lengths, thickness, and most importantly colors!
Great boots! I could use a new pair of snowboots.
Thanks, Kate! Definitely check out TJ Maxx/Marshalls!
