Over the years, I’ve shared a lot about my mental health here: my anxiety, finding the right therapist, body image, and more. Deciding to become a mom was a journey for me, and my mental health has definitely been affected along the way. But, I didn’t realize the mental and emotional load of parenthood until I was living it. Being the primary parent just adds to this weight. I had no idea how many things have to be thought about on a daily basis, or what it’s like to worry constantly about milestones and safety. I didn’t know how hard it would be to stay calm through a tantrum, or feel helpless when your kid gets sick. It’s a whole new set of challenges and feelings, and things are always changing.
I’m fortunate to have a fantastic therapist who has helped me through a lot of the harder moments. I try to share as candidly as I can on social media. Every time I do share something, I always get messages from moms thanking me for my openness. They’re always grateful to know that they’re not alone. Maternal mental health is really important, but it’s hard for some moms to prioritize it. Not everyone has people in their life who they can be completely honest with and not feel guilty. But, every mom deserves and needs that opportunity.
With that in mind, I decided to find a way to bring NYC moms together. My vision was just to create an environment where moms could chat, compare notes, and get advice without judgement. I’m so thankful that Hatch was willing to partner with me on this. You probably know Hatch for their maternity clothes, but they’re branching out into the community space. They want to be a resource for moms and a place where we can feel supported…which is so awesome!
