My husband and I have lived in New York City for almost five years. Our first year was in Brooklyn, and the rest have been on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. We’re in our third apartment now, a definite upgrade from our last place, and I feel so blessed to live in a beautiful building with fantastic views.
Another great thing about this apartment is that I’ve finally been able to dip my toe in the decorating waters. Our previous apartment had a brick wall that ran along one side, and although it definitely gave the place character, it also made it difficult to hang things on the wall. Not an issue here! It’s been about four months since we moved in, and although there are still things I want to add and change, I thought it was a good time to share a peek into the space we’ve created.
My favorite room is probably the kitchen. I cook a lot, so a great kitchen is a must-have. This one has stainless steel appliances, these amazingly tall cabinets, and the perfect spot for my spice rack.

The living room is a great size, and also serves as an office and eating area. We looked at two apartments in our building, and one of the reasons we chose this one was the layout that allowed us to create such a multi-purpose space.

The office “nook” is also home to some of our sports-themed decorations. I grew up in the Boston area, and my husband is a born and bred New Yorker, so you can imagine the rivalries!

Over the couch is our gallery wall. You may have seen some of these prints make an appearance on my Instagram feed. Most are Etsy finds, and all of them have special meaning to us. The beach scene is from Siesta Key, Florida, where my grandparents have had a house since my mom was in the first grade. The bowling sign is from the town where my husband and I met as summer camp counselors. And, the C.S. Lewis quote is pretty much my life motto right now.

Opposite the gallery wall is the TV, bookcase, and a set of wire shelves. I would love to do more with these shelves, a la The Everygirl, but right now they serve as storage for cookbooks, serving pieces, and pretty things I’ve made and collected.

Finally, we have the bedroom. I’ve been wanting a headboard for a long time, and after much research, I was finally able to find one that wasn’t “too girly” for my husband to handle.

If you read this blog, you obviously know that I love jewelry. Some of my collection lives in my closet, but the rest stays where I can see it on top my dresser. I highly recommend an acrylic tray as a means of displaying your favorite pieces!

Thanks, Merritt!
So cute Sam!!
Thanks, Erica! Hope you can see it in person soon
Love the headboard! I’ve always wanted a tufted headboard.

Thanks, Heidi! It’s pretty great, and I was pleasantly surprised to find one that wasn’t too expensive. Maybe after the kitchen reno?
My hubs pointed out that with two dogs anything can’t be tossed in the wash probably isn’t the wisest decision when it comes to bedding. Jax loves to sneak a nap in our bed whenever we forget to close the dog gate. And, whenever one of us is out of town the dogs are allowed in the bed
so cute! The headboard is to die for!
Thanks, Linda! Definitely a worthwhile purchase!
