No matter how long you and your significant other have been together, it’s really hard to shop for their parents. One of the best gifts I’ve ever gotten for my in-laws was a gift certificate to BedandBreakfast.com, which they used for a weekend getaway. Otherwise, I try to think about things I know they like or activities they enjoy doing. If your FIL likes a glass of scotch at the end of the day, whiskey stones are a fun and useful gift idea. Does your MIL read a lot? If she’s a traditionalist, try a Barnes & Noble gift card with a cute bookmark, or if she’s all about digital, a Kindle with a colorful cover (they’re on sale through 12/1!).
Things they can use or display around the house works well too. If you can’t find something they can actually use, try for something that will make them smile when they see it. These are all under $50 and totally fit the bill:
