I know what you’re thinking…Smirnoff Ice?! I haven’t had that since college! You’re probably still scarred from the last time you got “iced.” I get it. I was a little hesitant when Smirnoff offered to send me a Cocktail Playbook kit to make a Smirnoff Ice “fantail” for football season. But, when I opened the box, I was really excited to see new flavors (and a super cute mason jar!).
My challenge was to use one of these flavors to make a game day cocktail, and I instantly gravitated towards the Screwdriver flavor.
I’m not a beer drinker, so I’m sometimes at a loss for what to drink during a game. I feel a little silly drinking a fruity drink, but a mason jar totally makes it legit, right?
For my “fantail,” I made what we’ll call a Smirnoff Ice Sunrise. Instead of tequila and orange juice, I used Smirnoff Ice Screwdriver as my base. A splash of grenadine creates the gorgeous color that gives the drink its name.
Garnish with an orange slice and drop in a cherry or two, and you are ready for game time!
This was the perfect drink to enjoy while watching my Pats last night! Fun fact: I’ve actually been a diehard football fan most of my life and I even interned for the NFL Players Association in college. Here’s hoping my boys can make it to the Big Dance again this season!
Smirnoff Ice Sunrise
1 bottle Screwdriver Smirnoff Ice
Splash of grenadine
Splash of orange juice (optional)
Orange slice
Maraschino cherries
Start with the Smirnoff Ice Screwdriver and top with a splash of OJ for a little extra orange. Slowly add the grenadine to create the sunrise effect. Garnish with fruit and enjoy!
Thanks to Smirnoff Ice for sponsoring this post (and encouraging me to mix it up on game day!) All opinions are my own.
