I have to be honest…New York Fashion Week kind of snuck up on me this year. I know, I know, I live in New York City! But, with the puppy adoption process and prep, plus the actual pup himself, life has been otherwise occupied. That said, just because I didn’t make it to any Fashion Week events or shows, doesn’t mean I totally missed out. Instead of drowning in my FOMO, I used Instagram and Pinterest to soak in as much fall/winter fashion as I could. Because I try to focus on accessible, affordable fashion, I keep my eye out for wearable designer looks that can inspire the everyday woman. Some of my favorites are above, and you can see even more on my Fashion Week Favorites Pinterest board. Here are the major trends I spotted:
- Structured Coats & Jackets: From long wool to short moto, coats and jackets with serious structure were all over the runways. Big collars or collarless, zippers and buttons, in muted and bold colors.
- The Midi Skirt: Although the mini skirt played as prominent role as always, there were a surprising number of models in midi skirts. It looks like this in between length is here to stay. {If you’re stumped on how to style it}
- Transitional Color Palettes: One of my favorite things about this season’s shows and presentations was the variety of colors. There were bold primary colors and jewel tones, but we also saw a lot of pastels. This just goes to show that there’s no need to relegate a color palette to a certain season.
- Gray & Navy: Black and white will always be the foundation for a great outfit, but it looks like (light) gray and navy may be edging them out as lead neutrals come fall and winter. Gray was especially prevalent in outerwear, and paired perfectly with everything from light purple to deep blue.
What was your favorite show? Which trends are you looking forward to trying later this year? P.S. Happy Valentine’s Day!
I’m really excited to add more gray and navy into my life!
