Raise your hand if you have a hard time finding flattering shorts…I bet I can count on one hand the number of people who aren’t raising their hands! Shopping for shorts is hard. You have to find the right rise and length for your shape, and be comfortable with how much leg you’re showing. When you have curves, it can be even more complicated.
As I mentioned last week, I haven’t been feeling 100% about my body lately, so I was really surprised by how good I felt when I tried on these floral shorts during Ann Taylor’s recent sale. They’re a higher rise than I would normally go for (although I’m learning that I’ve probably been wearing the wrong rise), and they totally go against “traditional” wisdom that you shouldn’t wear a bold pattern on an area of your body that you don’t want to emphasize. I think the eyelet details on my tee help with that, but honestly, I was a little nervous to tuck in my tee and draw so much attention to my lower half. With the statement sleeves on top and the bright shoes, it all balances out, and I actually love how it all came together. So, if you’re having trouble finding shorts, experiment with length, rise, color and pattern…and keep an open mind!
