I grew up in New England, and went on many beach vacations with my family over the years, but when I moved to The Concrete Jungle, I realized how much I missed being close to the ocean. For me, serenity is toes in the sand, waves crashing, and not a care in the world. So, when my friends proposed a trip to Rockaway Beach over the weekend, I was all for it. Although I learned the painful lesson that spray sunscreen is even less effective when applied on a windy day (#lobsterlegs), we had a wonderfully relaxing time.
That night, I wanted to keep the carefree vibes going, so I opted for a lightly layered outfit for a night of wine and friendship. If you’re in the city and looking for a beach escape of your own, I definitely recommend Rockaway. It’s beautiful, quiet, and completely subway accessible. I should caution that it does take a while to get out there, but in my opinion, it’s worth it! Also, something you need for summer: Gap’s ribbed tanks. They are super comfortable, and one of the most flattering basics I’ve found!
Sunnies: J.Crew Factory, Earrings: old (similar), Chambray Shirt: Gap (similar), Striped Tank: Gap, Jeans: J.Crew Factory, Shoes: Payless (same in white, another gold option), Bag: Old Navy, Lip Color: L’Oreal Colour Riche in Coral Encore
I think it would be great to live in a city, but I would truly miss the proximity to the ocean.
Love love love your sequined boat shoes!
Chic on the Cheap
Thanks, Lydia! Totally agree!
Those sequined boat shoes are amazing!!!! I need them in my life.
Thanks, Ashley! They are so much fun to wear!
Ah the beach is my favorite place ever! I also have sunscreen application issues haha but I love this breezy look! The white + chambray is always a classic!

We should go together some time 🙂 Thanks so much!
A chambray is such a statement summer piece, transitional too. I say this but have yet to find a chambray I really like since my pregnancy (the one I previously owned no longer fit).
Lovely outfit, carefree is a very appropriate title for this post – in the best possible way!
🙂
Bits & Bobs
Thanks so much, Jade! This is actually my third chambray, but the only one that truly fits me the way I want it to. The perfect one is hard to find, but it’s possible 🙂
I hate being away from the ocean, I don’t think I could live in a land locked state. I love that gap top – looks great on you!
Thanks for the tip on j.crew, love the enabling!!
whatsarahknows
Thanks, Sarah! I don’t think I could live in a landlocked state either. There just needs to be water! Let me know what you get at J.Crew!
