The NYC brunch scene is intense. Some people like to go early, some like to go late. You can opt for bottomless beverages, or pay $10+ for a more unique cocktail. There are so many places all over the city that it’s hard to know where to go. But, one place that always tops the “best of brunch” lists is Jack’s Wife Freda. If you follow any New York bloggers on Instagram, you’ve probably seen a few snaps from one of JWF’s two downtown locations. I had always heard that the space was small, but the food is good…and incredibly photogenic. So, on Saturday, my friend Andrea and I decided to check it out for ourselves.
The wait was at least an hour, but we took the opportunity to wander around Soho and catch up. Once we got a table, it was decision time. We wanted to try the famous avocado toast, so we split that as an “appetizer.” Then, one of us got the mediterranean eggs and the other the rosewater waffle. Both were tasty and interesting, but one of my favorite things was the cantaloupe mimosa. (Pro Tip: If you’re with a group of 6 or more, you can make reservations on OpenTable and avoid the wait! Because I knew we would probably have to wait outside, I wore layers that would be warm, but not too warm. I love the idea of mixing two versions of the same pattern, and then tying everything together with neutrals. Plus, buffalo check just says “winter,” doesn’t it?! After brunch, we stumbled upon this colorful doorway, which was perfect for pictures!
