One of the much less important, but still annoying, things about stay at home orders is that nail salons and hair dresses are closed. While I can’t give many helpful tips about cutting or dyeing your own hair, I do have a good handle on at-home manicure essentials. They work for pedicures too!
If you want your manicure to last, it’s important to start with a base coat. I’ve been using OPI Chip Skip Prep Coat for years. It goes on smooth and dries fast, which is exactly what you need.
One of my favorite sources for everything nails is Olive & June. They’re known for their trendy salons in LA, but they also created an amazing at-home line. I use so many of their products, and highly recommend the cuticle serum and nail polish remover. But, the best thing they make, in my opinion, is The Poppy, which is a universal nail polish bottle handle. It makes painting your nails, even your non-dominant hand, SO MUCH EASIER!
I like O&J’s polish selection, and their top coat too. But, I’m definitely an Essie devotee, whether I’m getting my nails done or painting them at home. They have so many beautiful color choices, and I love that they keep expanding their product line with new innovations.
I’ve used the Gel Couture polish and top coat long-wear combo, although it doesn’t always last longer for me than regular polish. I like the Treat Love & Color that helps strengthen your nails while you wearing it. And, I just tried the new Expressie Quick Dry line, which lives up to its name without sacrificing quality. I also experimented with the matte polish, but realized I’m more of a glossy finish girl
One of the hardest things to do when you’re doing at at-home manicure is wait for them to dry. But, the last thing you want is to smudge and have to do it all over again, so be patient!
