This weekend, we went to the wedding of one of my husband’s closest friends from law school. It was at The River Café in Brooklyn, which is an absolutely gorgeous venue right on the water. The views are unbelievable, with the Brooklyn Bridge to the right and the Manhattan skyline in the distance, so I knew I wanted to get there in time to snap some outfit pictures. The funny thing about this navy cocktail dress is that it was a lucky last minute purchase from Nordstrom Rack. The wedding dress code was “festive,” and I wasn’t exactly sure what I was going to wear. One day last week, I decided I needed a little walk after a long day at work, and ended up popping into the Nordstrom Rack in Union Square. This was the only dress I tried on, but I loved the way it fit…and the fact that it was on clearance for $39!
Navy isn’t necessarily a color you think of for a wedding, but it’s the perfect alternative to black if you still want to wear something neutral. I also think of navy as part of the jewel tone family, so it works especially well in fall and winter. The off-the-shoulder detail and tulle skirt on this dress made me feel like a princess, and I couldn’t resist twirling! Gold accessories were the perfect compliment, and I love any excuse to wear my glittery Mary Janes (a crazy good find at a J.Crew Sample Sale last year). It was so fun to celebrate with our friends and enjoy a part of the city that we never spend time in. This was the last of six weddings for us this year, and it’s been great to have so many happy occasions to celebrate!
