Five Things

Petite Pear

Have you seen the ‘five things’ meme going around the blogosphere lately? I was especially impressed with beautifully honest posts from Grace and Emily. When Alissa, who also wrote an amazing post, tagged me to share my five things, I started thinking about what to divulge. Here are five things about me:

I used to be tall. I grew to my current height somewhere around 5th or 6th grade. For a while, I was the tallest kid in my class, towering over even the boys. I played town league basketball for a few years, and was pretty good, but it was otherwise a little awkward to hit my growth spurt so early. However, everyone else soon caught up to and surpassed me, and I’ve been in the shorty category for the better part of my life.

I moved from Massachusetts to New York in the middle of high school. During the summer between sophomore and junior year, I left everything I had ever known and moved with my parents to Long Island. It was a totally different environment, with a lot more people, and quickly became one of the formative experiences of my life. I still hold true to my New England/Boston sports allegiances, but it is nice to have my parents close by and in the same state.

I have a mouth full of sweet teeth. If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you have likely seen me express my love for everything dessert. Ice cream is one of my favorite foods, and I’m a big fan of cake. Sometimes, I would rather skip dinner and go straight to dessert.

I suffer from anxiety. In my teenage years, I would often have crippling panic attacks, especially at night. I was, and still am, incredibly self-conscious, and once I start worrying, it’s hard for me to stop. With medicine, and hard work, it’s under control and not something that defines me. But, it’s still a part of my life.

It’s taken me a long time to love and embrace my curves. Right around the time I grew vertically, I started maturing in other ways too. I’ve never been stick straight, and at times, that’s been hard for me. Although the fashion world has come a long way, the majority of women featured on runways and in advertisements are tall and thin. It’s harder to buy pants when you have hips. When you gain a little weight, it always goes to the worst places. There are styles that just don’t work, and some that require serious creativity or alterations. It’s a challenge, but one that I have come to appreciate. These days (most of the time), I love my curves. Hell, I even included the word ‘pear’ in the name of this blog because I want to show women of all shapes and sizes that there are clothes out there for them.

I hope you learned a little bit about me. For more, check out the post I wrote for an IFB Project that asked “Why did you start your blog?”  I tag Erica, Mara, Tracy and Amanda!

Love seeing your 5 Truths. I definitely got my Mom’s hips so I know what it’s like finding pants and skirts especially for me. I may love something on the hanger but it usually looks horrible on my hips lol

    • Hi Rachel! So glad you found my blog and connected with this post. I think with something like anxiety, it’s easy to feel alone and overwhelmed, so I’m glad I put that out there. Can’t wait to check out your blog!
