Fall is my favorite season! I love the slight chill to the air, the beautiful colors, and anything apple or pumpkin. I called this post “Fall Getaways from NYC,” but they would really work for anyone in the tri-state area. While the city is fun, it’s also really nice to escape every once in a while, especially while the leaves are changing. Depending on how much time you have to get away, here are some of my favorite places to explore.
If you’re looking for a day trip, check out Rockland County! There are a bunch of farms and orchards for apple and pumpkin picking, and some beautiful trails to explore. We went apple picking at Dr. Davies Farm in Congers a few years ago. It was just an hour outside of the city, dog-friendly and so much fun! They also had really tasty apple cider donuts, a seasonal necessity!
For an overnight trip, I recommend Nyack, also in Rockland County. We visited during the summer, but I’m sure it would be great in the fall too! There are a lot of amazing restaurants with outdoor seating, and a beautiful park along the Hudson River.
If you can get away for a whole weekend, head to Mystic, CT! It’s easy to get to, and there are so many outdoor activities within a short distance. I especially loved the Cider Mill we visited, and it was great to be able to explore Old Mystic Village with Bones! Bonus that it’s on the water.
Another weekend option is to head upstate. We did that last fall and met my best friend from high school and her family at Barton Orchards in Poughquag. It took about an hour and a half to get there, but the orchard was huge and they had tons of activities. We picked apples, took a hayride, and sampled beer and cider from the bar. It was both kid and dog-friendly, so a great place to go with a group!
Still figuring out if we can fit in any fall getaways this year. Let me know if there’s anywhere else we should check out!
